Start at dawn, and buy your ticket online.

Taman Mini Indonesia Indah (TMII) is the one sight in East Jakarta worth building a whole day around: a walk-through model of the archipelago, with traditional houses from every province, a cluster of museums, a cable car and a wildlife park. The secret to a good visit is timing. Gate 3 opens at 05:00, and the early hours are the coolest of the day; the heat builds by midday.

Entry is Rp25,000 on weekdays and Rp35,000 at weekends, and a weekday visit is quieter as well as cheaper. Book tickets and tours on GetYourGuide before you go. Gate 3 runs 05:00–09:00 and again 10:00–20:00, with the last ticket sold at 19:00.

If you drive, vehicles pay on top of entry: Rp35,000 for a car, Rp20,000 for a motorbike and Rp10,000 for a bicycle. Coming by rail, LRT Jabodebek has a TMII station.

Morning

The green zone, the cable car and the provincial pavilions.

TMII has been car-free since 2023. You park at the edge, then explore the green zone of around 150 hectares on the free electric shuttles, by bike or on foot. Early morning is the best time to cycle or walk between sights, before the sun gets strong.

Ride the cable car first for the view over the park, then spend the rest of the morning among the provincial pavilions: traditional houses built province by province, so a short walk takes you across the country's architecture, from one end of Indonesia to the other.

Late morning

Museums and Jagat Satwa Nusantara.

Most museums and attractions open about 08:00–16:00, so save the indoor stops for the hotter hours. Good picks are the Transportation Museum, the Komodo Museum, the Science Center PP-IPTEK and the Electricity & New Energy Museum. The Keong Mas theatre is here too.

Jagat Satwa Nusantara brings together a bird park and insect and freshwater worlds. The bird park costs about Rp75,000 on weekdays and Rp85,000 at weekends (checked October 2026). Like every attraction inside TMII, it is ticketed separately from park entry, so budget for each stop you plan to make.

Lunch and afternoon

Eat at Pasar Nusantara Sarinah, then visit the At-Tin Mosque.

For lunch, head to Pasar Nusantara Sarinah, the food court that opened inside the park in April 2025. It makes an easy midday break before the afternoon.

After lunch, visit the At-Tin Mosque. Dress modestly for it, and plan your outfit for the whole day around that. From October to April, the rainy season, pack an umbrella as well.

How long to stay: half a day for the highlights, a full day for everything.

3–4 hours: the highlights

  • The cable car
  • A walk through the provincial pavilions
  • One museum
  • Lunch at Pasar Nusantara Sarinah

6–8 hours: a full day

  • Everything in the highlights
  • Jagat Satwa Nusantara
  • Two or three more museums
  • The At-Tin Mosque

Stay nearby

Sleep next to the park and be at the gate when it opens.
