Pick your base by what you plan to do.

East Jakarta is the city's largest district, so where you sleep shapes your whole trip. A day at Taman Mini, an early flight from Halim, a food morning in Jatinegara and a weekend in the parks of Cibubur each point to a different neighbourhood. Here are the five areas we recommend, with twelve hotels between them.

Near TMII

Best for a full day at Taman Mini.

Stay here and you can be at Gate 3 when it opens at 05:00, before the heat builds. LRT Jabodebek has a TMII station, and the Lubang Buaya memorial is in the same Cipayung district. See our TMII one-day itinerary.

Halim / Cawang

Best for flights in and out of Halim.

Halim Perdanakusuma Airport (HLP) is in East Jakarta, so these hotels keep the airport transfer short. Soekarno-Hatta (CGK), the main international gateway, is about 1–1.5 hours away by road. Cawang is also home to Soto Cawang, serving soto Betawi since 1952.
